Herbology: Blue Tansy

Not many flowers wear their healing power in such a striking color. Blue Tansy (Tanacetum annuum) though it’s part of the daisy family, is anything but ordinary.

Native to the Mediterranean, especially Morocco, this delicate yellow flower reveals its true magic only after it’s steam-distilled—when it transforms into a deep indigo-blue oil, thanks to a natural compound called chamazulene.

They are however not to be confused with the oil from common tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) which is not blue.

A Healing Herb Through Time

Used in traditional remedies across Northern Africa and Southern Europe – common tansy can be used effectively as an inhalant to relieve respiratory discomfort, it's particularly beneficial for allergies and asthma.

In TCM, Blue Tansy calms Liver Chi Stagnation – Liver Chi (Energy) stagnation, often shows up as emotional irritability, anger and frustration. This little powerful plant may help soothe and harmonize this energy by using their herbaceous aroma to help move excess energy.

How Blue Tansy Brings Skin Back to Balance

At the heart of Blue Tansy’s magic is azulene, the soothing botanical element that gives this oil both its calming scent and rich blue hue. It’s especially effective for:

  • Sensitive, oily, or blemish-prone skin
  • Combination skin that feels out of balance
  • Post-sun exposure and inflamed complexions
  • Signs of aging and UV-related stress

With natural anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, Blue Tansy (Tanacetum annuum) has emerged as a skin-soothing treasure for its ability to quiet flare-ups and bring harmony back to sensitive skin.

But it’s not just about one star ingredient—it’s how you support it.

GingerChi’s Thoughtful Blend: More Than Just Blue

Our Blue Tansy Balance Facial Oil was crafted as a full ritual in a bottle. In addition to pure Blue Tansy oil, we’ve included nourishing Squalane and Camellia Seed Oils—plant-based hydrators that mimic your skin’s natural moisture and help strengthen the barrier without clogging pores.

A Simple Step That Makes a Big Difference

Use it on clean skin, morning or evening, apply a few drops then press gently into the skin—or use it to enhance your Gua Sha or facial massage ritual.

Some aestheticians swear by its healing properties as a potential skin care application to wound healing and anti inflammatory effect to help soothe troubled or irritated skin.

Some radiologists have also employed spritzer bottles containing water and Blue Tansy oil to help treat skin for burns.
