Tracing the Legacy

The Chinese have a long history of calling green rocks, jade or "Yu" in mandarin. It symbolizes beauty, nobility, wealth and power, and immortality in Chinese culture.

In ancient China, where it was regarded as the "imperial gem" and associated with royalty and nobility. Its durability and toughness made it highly prized for crafting exquisite jewelry, ceremonial artifacts, and even weaponry.

It held a significance unparalleled to even gold due to its rarity and extraction difficulty. Men adorned jade brooches to signify their status, indirectly reflecting their wealth. Women of influence wore jade ornaments, used jade combs, and employed jade rollers for skincare, as well as jade scraping tools.

During that time, the traditional Chinese physiognomy believed that every flaw on the face reflected different aspects of a person's health and destiny. By reducing the appearance of wrinkles or flaws on their faces, it’s believed they could not only improve their appearance but also alter their health and perhaps even change their destiny.

In this context, It’s easy to see how these anti-aging techniques were highly valued and why effective beauty tools like jade rollers became so precious.

Jade and Chi

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Chi, or energy, is revered as the essence of vitality, and its harmonious flow is thought to manifest in radiant skin.

Jade is believed to possessed healing properties to enhance Chi and blood circulation while balancing the yin and yang energies within.

Jade is naturally cool to the touch, It's ability to retain temperature, which can enhance its cooling effect when applied to the skin, make it particularly beneficial for calming irritated or sensitive skin, making it a popular choice for facial massage tools like jade rollers and gua sha stones.

The combination of traditional beliefs, perceived therapeutic benefits, and aesthetic appeal has contributed to the enduring popularity of jade tools in skincare practices across different cultures and time periods.
